Fall performance season has arrived for local high schools, and it kicks off this Friday at Highland with their production of Newsies.
Under the direction of Jennifer McClenehan, more than 30 students are involved in the musical, which was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. As senior cast members, Allyana Pokorny and Meleah Fesler explain, “It’s about newspaper boys from the 1890’s who are going on strike for higher wages and to take the price of papers down by the guy named Joseph Pulitzer who is the villain. They start to make a union which helps their pricing for the newspapers.”
Performances are to be held in the Highland High School gym on Friday, November 3 and Saturday November 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults, and are available at the door.
