After an exciting quarterfinal win last week, the top ranked and undefeated Winfield-Mt. Union football team is ready to take the next step, with a trip to the Dome. The community will send the Wolves off in style Monday, with a meet and greet event. Starting at 7p.m. tonight in the WMU gym there will be a community pep rally with the team, with time for autographs and pictures with the players. This is a chance to congratulate the Wolves and wish them good luck during their time in Cedar Falls. This week, Winfield-Mt. Union head football coach Scott McCarty and JET Physical Therapy Football Athlete of the Week Abram Edwards spoke with KCII about the atmosphere WMU fans provide at the game and what it means to have the community behind them.
McCarty said, “This is an incredible opportunity for our kids and our community. I thought we had a really nice crowd at (Don Bosco), maybe even more than the home crowd. We traveled really well. The support from our community has been amazing. I’m really happy for the community to get to experience this. We’re really excited about it!”
Edwards added, “The crowd always shows up, whether we are home or away. They’re always electric and super into the game. You can count on them to be there when you need them the most!”
With their 34-29 win at top 10 Don Bosco Thursday, the Wolves advanced to the UNI-Dome for the first time since 1999. Their 8-man state semifinal contest on Wednesday sees them face off with the Algona Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears who were a 26-16 winner over CAM Anita to qualify. You can hear all of the action between the 11-0 Wolves and 10-1 Bears Wednesday, live on All KCII signals, streams and apps, beginning with the WMU Football Pregame Show at 9:30 and kickoff in the Dome at 10a.m.
