The Mid-Prairie School Board met in regular session on Monday, November 13. Beginning the meeting with the Hawk Highlight, the board heard from the district’s instructional coaches about the work they do with teachers to empower them to grow.

One individual spoke during the public forum, expressing their disappointment in the district’s Special Education Department. The board communicated that the conversation could continue if the matter is put on a future agenda.

Election results were discussed, with incumbents Mary Allred and Denise Chittick, along with Randy Billups and Ryan Schlabaugh elected to the board. Due to coaching responsibilities, Billups will be sworn in on Wednesday, November 22, while Allred, Chittick, and Schlabaugh will be sworn in at the next meeting.

In conjunction with the board election, Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber explained the results of the bond vote for future facilities improvements. “The general obligation bond referendum for the $8.7 million bond passed with 943 ‘yes’ votes versus 435 ‘no’ votes. That’s about 109 votes higher than what we needed to have the minimum to pass the bond. Right now we are working on the next steps in the process to determine a timeline for letting of bids, which will also determine when bonds will be sold.”

The Mid-Prairie Community School District Board of Education will meet next at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, November 27 in the Central Office Community Room.
