The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves have become one of southeast Iowa’s top boys’ basketball teams, winning 40 games over the last two seasons combined and reaching the substate semifinals last season while going 19-5. Four of the five starters are back for head coach Klay Edwards as WMU chases a conference championship and more postseason success.

Winfield-Mount Union will be powered by one of the best tandems in the area in senior forwards Cam Buffington and Abram Edwards. Buffington was the second-leading scorer in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference last season, pouring in over 19-and-a-half points per game while also averaging nearly 9.5 rebounds and three assists per contest.

Edwards also nearly averaged a double-double with 11 points, 9.5 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots a game on his way to All-Super Conference North status as a junior.

The Wolves also bring back junior Jake Edwards and senior Carter Loyd, who paired to put up almost 14.5 points, five rebounds, 6.5 assists and three steals per game combined in the backcourt. WMU will get the new season tipped off November 28th when they travel to face Louisa-Muscatine.
