The Highland Huskies are getting set for a new season of wrestling, with much of last year’s roster back in tow for head coach Nick Cole. That includes two state qualifiers in seniors Luke Guseman and Jack Peiffer. Guseman went 29-10 in the 120-pound weight class and finished eighth in the state in Class 1A, while Peiffer caught fire late in the season on his way to winning 24 bouts.
Highland also returns sophomore Brock Thomann, who is trying to build on a 34-21 debut season at 126 lbs by adding a trip to state. Senior Remington Fields is back after winning 20 matches at 145, while junior Landon Bell returns with 25 wins at 106 and junior Isaac Kleese with 16 victories at 182.
The Husky girls bring back their lone state qualifier in senior Angelina Roling, who went 27-13 at 115, but junior Lilly Barre is also back after 30 wins at 120, as is Abbie Grout after 20 victories as a junior at 100 lbs. The Highland girls will compete at BGM this weekend to start the new season, while the Husky boys will go to Wapello for their first tournament December 2nd.
