Two KCII area girls wrestling teams had big showings Saturday at the Wilton Women’s Wrestling Tournament. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks finished as team runners-up in a field of 11 schools with their score of 128 points. Mount Vernon edged out Mid-Prairie with their 134. Two Hawks were golden on the day with Ashlee Farrier pinning her way to a 3-0 day and the championship at 130lbs, spending less than three total minutes on the mat. Mardie Berry put together a perfect day to claim the title at 155lbs including a 5-3 decision over Emily Gomez-Miranda of Muscatine in the championship bout. Austyn Sexton and Shelby Stacey were runners-up for the Golden Hawks while Faziia Kosymova and Ellie Brenneman were third.
Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union placed seventh as a team with 65 points. Top ‘Cats for the day were third place finishers Quinn Smith, Dakota Storm and Jada Moats.
