Runners and walkers are invited to kickoff the holiday season in Washington Saturday with the annual Jingle Bell Fun Run. The run is part of the series of SNOW (Showcasing Nights of Washington) Events hosted by Main Street Washington, leading into the holiday season. Registration begins at 8a.m. at JPs 207 just off the Washington square. Cost is $25 for those 10 and up. $10 for under 10. Participants are encouraged to dress up in themes and costumes and to bring their animals. There are both one mile and 5K courses with runners, walkers and their pets welcome.
Event organizer, Washington Demon head boys track and field coach Steve Roth spoke this week with KCII about the event and how the proceeds are used. “We encourage you to dress up. We encourage you to bring your animal friends. We have a 5K which goes down through Sunset Park, then around in front of St. James, back to the square and you get to do that twice, it starts and ends at JPs. You can walk that course once, or you can also walk or run the square. This is our 17th or 18th year. We always give proceeds to Paws N More Animal Shelter, there are a couple of things going on at Case Field that we are giving money to this year. We are a sponsor of the Chamber’s Holiday Tour of Homes. Main Street Washington. All of the money goes out locally. We also encourage you to bring a can of food to donate to HACAP. I also get local establishments to give gifts certificates and we’ll give those away at the end.”
The KCII Big Red Radio will broadcast live Saturday from 8-10a.m. playing Christmas music and making announcements. For more information visit the Washington Jingle Bell Fun Run page on Facebook.
