The Lone Tree Lions picked up a statement win to start conference play Tuesday night in girls’ basketball, defeating Winfield-Mount Union 67-26 at home. Already leading 16-9 against the defending champions of the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference, Lone Tree’s second quarter was even better than their first, using a 20-4 run to build a commanding 36-13 halftime lead that they would never relinquish.
In a battle of 2-0 teams, Lone Tree comes out on top. While the Lions are next in action this coming Tuesday against Columbus, Winfield-Mount Union will look to bounce back Tuesday by facing another Super Conference North rival on the road in Louisa-Muscatine.
