On Tuesday, YMCA of Washington County Child Care Director, Shalon Hoyle was presented with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award.

Supervisors and bosses are nominated for this award by National Guard or Reserve service members, or their spouse. It recognizes the efforts made by these individuals to support service members through a number of measures such as flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leave of absence if needed.

Hoyle was nominated by a child care employee after their spouse was deployed with the Reserves last year. As a supportive supervisor, Hoyle received the award for her willingness to adapt to schedule changes as a result of this deployment.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense program which seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members in the United States National Guard and Reserve.
