The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team opened the River Valley Conference season Thursday with a quad meet at West Branch against Dyersville Beckman, Tipton and the home Bears. The Hawks got a team victory on the night in their final dual, beating Beckman 48-24. Mid-Prairie scored all of their points against the Blazers through forfeits.
The Golden Hawks were beaten by the Tipton Tigers 57-24. The Hawks got a win in a contested match from Tucker Miller at 138 over Gavin Roth by fall.
Mid-Prairie fell to the West Branch Bears 63-12. The Hawks scored a pair of contested match wins with a Tucker Miller 8-5 victory at 138 over Maddux Rushton, and Max Kipp at 150 with a takedown in the final five seconds to edge Hunter Christoffel 8-7. After the meet, Miller, a senior, spoke about his undefeated night. Miller said, “(Against West Branch Maddux Rushton), I lat dropped him, got him down once then rode him out for that period. Then next period, I got an escape, a cowcatcher and put him on the mat again. (When you hit a move like that) it feels relieving, especially when you’re down a little bit to get the momentum going your way again. To finish a match, you have to dig deep, find some energy, and be able to make things happen!”
Mid-Prairie has a 3-3 dual meet record this season. They travel to the Jeremy Fulk Classic at New London Saturday.
