Over the last calendar year, the Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District has considered the option of implementing a 4-day school week.

The District has spent several months researching the merits of a 4-day week, holding meetings with community members and stakeholders, along with collecting survey data. After compiling this data, WMU released the answers to several frequently asked questions, including information on the ways that a 4-day school week would benefit families, the school, and the community.

The State of Iowa requires 1,080 instructional hours per school year. A 4-day calendar would consist of 150 scheduled student days at 7.25 instructional hours per day. This would put WMU past the required yearly hours by more than 11. To learn more about a potential 4-day school week and find answers to some frequently asked questions, click here.
