The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team steps into a unique environment Saturday at BGM high school, a rare girls dual tournament. The Hawks enjoyed plenty of success last season in dual matchups, posting a 7-1 team record, including wins over Cedar Rapids Prairie, Iowa City West, Solon, Mount Vernon, West Liberty and Iowa City Liberty, twice. So far this season, the Hawks have wrestled at three tournaments, finishing as runners-up at Wilton, third at West Liberty and fourth at North Scott. Top performers include junior Ashlee Farrier with three individual championships and a spotless 10-0 record. Mardie Berry was a champion along with Farrier at Wilton and Austyn Sexton, Ellie Brenneman and Emmerson Moore joined Farrier at North Scott on top of the podium.
Mid-Prairie will be joined at today’s event by Ames, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Colfax-Mingo, Marshalltown, Nevada and the home Bears. Action continues all day Saturday at BGM High School.
