The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams wrapped up a busy week Saturday hosting River Valley Conference North Division foe Northeast Goose Lake in a doubleheader in Tim Grady Gymnasium. The Golden Hawk boys were a 61-43 winner. Mid-Prairie did their work early, leading 17-13 after the first quarter and posting 22 points in the second frame to build a 39-26 halftime lead. The Hawks clamped down defensively, allowing just 17 points after the half to keep the Rebels at bay. The Hawks lit up the nets in Wellman Saturday, shooting 50% from the floor in total and knocking down 10 threes as a team. Mid-Prairie outrebounded the Rebels by 10, dished out 12 assists and had nine steals.

Bryce Henry led the way with 21 points, including five threes to go with six boards. Landon Sullivan scored a dozen with four assists and Dylan Henry got to double figures with 10. The Hawks are now 1-1 on the season as Northeast stands at 1-2.

The girls contest went the Rebels way 59-43. Northeast led 10-6 after one and 25-18 at half. An offensive outburst from both sides in the third saw each put up 18 points, but the Rebels closed the contest on a 16-7 run that spanned the entire final frame to finish the win. The Hawks had a tough day, shooting just 26% from the floor to 39% for Northeast. The Rebels outrebounded the Hawks by seven and doubled up their assist total 18-9.

Emma Riessen led the Rebels with 16 points, Leah Mangelsen added 15. The Hawks had a pair with 10 points, sophomore Jovi Evans and freshman Brooklyn Schneider. The win keeps Northeast unbeaten at 3-0 as the Hawks fall to 2-2. Both the Golden Hawk boys and girls travel to West Liberty Tuesday for a doubleheader you can hear on KCII.
