In cooperation with Washington County Emergency Management, the City of Washington has initiated an opt-in text alerting system for residents in the downtown area to receive important reminder text alerts about removing vehicles from the street for snow removal. To receive text message-only alerts you can text Washiowaparking to 67283 from your cell phone. To receive email message alerts, text and voice alerts, and to select other emergency alerts you would like to receive specific to your street address, you can find a link with this news story at KCIIradio.com. The process is self-explanatory as you follow the steps, providing your name, address, and contact information and choosing which emergency alerts you would like to receive. In addition to the alert messages, downtown residents are reminded to watch for signs posted on the corners of the square as required by local ordinance for snow removal. During winter weather events in southeast Iowa, count on AM and FM KCII for up-to-the-minute information.
