U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke to KCII News about celebrating 25 years of the Drug-Free Communities Program, here are his thoughts on 25 years with the program, “Well twenty-five years ago I didn’t even know that I would be in Congress to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of that legislation that I got passed then. But the idea behind the legislation and the purpose of the celebration was to emphasize the value of the program. Which is to make sure that the resources at the local level go to non-profit organizations that know the problems in their communities. They can better handle it there than we can from Washington DC, and provide the resources for doing it.” The DFC Program provides local partners with grants to empower grassroots, community-based efforts to prevent substance use among teens and young adults.
