The Sigourney Savages’ undefeated start to the girls’ basketball season continued Tuesday night by defeating Belle Plaine 55-17. Sigourney rode to victory on the strength of junior Ava Fisch, who hit six three-pointers to score a game-high 18 points.

Senior Carly Goodwin also had 14 points, three assists and two steals for the Savages, while junior Josephine Moore had six points, five rebounds and four assists. Senior Ava Fineran came off the bench for seven points and five boards, and, while she didn’t score, senior Amiya Smallwood stuffed the stat sheet with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocked shots, helping Sigourney move to 2-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 4-0 overall.

The Savage boys were on the wrong end of a thriller with Belle Plaine, falling 55-54 to drop their record to 1-2 both overall and in conference play. Both Sigourney teams next play English Valleys tomorrow night.
