sigourney-keota-2

The Keota Eagles and Sigourney Savages both wrapped up their week with boys’ basketball victories Friday. Keota cruised past Tri-County 77-28 to remain undefeated, building a 29-10 lead after a quarter of play that they would never relinquish.

Sawyer Stout paced the Eagle offense with 20 points scored, while fellow senior Evan Vittetoe had 16 points, eight rebounds and three steals and senior Tanner Waterhouse hit three three-pointers on his way to 11 points that helped Keota move to 4-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 6-0 overall.

Sigourney also earned a home victory Friday over English Valleys, turning a 17-4 first-quarter lead into a 23-point advantage by halftime and going on to win 72-36. Sophomores Solon Yates and John Berg had 14 points each to lead the Savages, while junior Isaac Bruns had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and junior Caden Clarahan added nine points and four boards off the bench as Sigourney improves to 2-2 both in conference play and overall.

Unfortunately for the Sigourney girls, their undefeated season came to an end with a 44-38 loss Friday against English Valleys. The Savages would only be down two points at halftime and tied the game at 26 going into the final period, but the Bears would be the team that came out on top.

Senior Erin Dawson had a team-high 12 points for Sigourney and added five rebounds, while junior Josephine Moore piled up eight points, 14 rebounds and three steals. Junior Ava Fisch also scored eight points, but the Savages nonetheless drop to 2-1 in league play and 4-1 overall. While Keota next plays tomorrow night against Belle Plaine, both Sigourney teams are in action again this evening against Cardinal.
