The Jefferson County Attorney’s Office issued a press release this week, explaining the decision to not file criminal charges relating to a stabbing that took place last month.
At 4:47 p.m. on November 30, an anonymous call was received describing a group of individuals fighting with sticks in the 800 block of West Grimes Avenue in Fairfield. When Fairfield Police Officers responded, they located an adult male who was bleeding from the leg. He was transported to the hospital for treatment of a significant injury.
Despite conflicting interviews from individuals at the scene, officers gathered that a disagreement among family members had been progressing throughout the day, culminating in a physical struggle. This resulted in a female individual stabbing the male individual in the leg with a kitchen knife. When interviewed, the female indicated that the knife was used in self defense, although this claim could not be verified.
Once stable, the stabbing victim was interviewed by law enforcement officers. While generally cooperative, he declined to provide information implicating the female party in his injury. He further indicated that he did not wish to cooperate in criminal prosecution.
With these factors taken into account, including the difficulty in determining a primary aggressor in this case, no criminal charges will be issued from the incident, barring the development of substantial additional evidence.
