The Washington Demons will get to host one of their biggest rivalry showdowns of the season tonight, as Washington welcomes fierce rival Mount Pleasant to town for a basketball doubleheader that you can hear on KCII. Both Washington teams are trying to stretch winning streaks to three games, something neither team did last season.

The Demon girls are 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Southeast Conference, including a 53-26 victory in their last game against West Liberty. Point guard Adalyn Long had 12 points, five rebounds and three steals against the Comets and has put up 24 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals over the last two games. Washington has also gotten strong play from sophomore Addison Miller, who has scored 19 points over the last two games.

The Demons are facing a Mount Pleasant team that has dropped both conference games and is 1-6 overall this season. Sophomore Abby Carthey leads the Panthers in scoring with just over nine-and-a-half points per contest.

In the boys’ game, Washington is looking to creep closer to first place in the Southeast Conference, sitting at 1-1 in the league and 3-3 overall. Sophomore guard Drew Conrad had been a scoring sensation by averaging almost 14 points a game while scoring in double figures in every game this season. Junior Logan McDole has also started to pick up his scoring pace, pouring in 34 points in back-to-back wins.

Washington will try to earn redemption from dropping both games against Mount Pleasant last season. The Panthers won the Southeast Conference championship and bring back reigning conference MVP Payton Hagans, who is averaging over 22 points per game to help his team to an identical record to the Demons.

The Mount Pleasant girls have beaten Washington in six straight meetings, while the Panthers and Demons have split their last six boys’ games. You can hear both matchups as Washington meets Mount Pleasant this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app, starting with the Countdown to Tip-Off at 5:30.
