After a high volume of student interest, Sigourney High School has formed its first-ever E-Sports team this year. E-Sports are multiplayer video games played competitively or for spectators.

Part of the inaugural team at Sigourney are seniors Jon Cline, Tristan Klett, Logan Pearson, and Cameron Wilson, juniors Addison Richardson and Rylan Vos, sophomore Logan Bray, and freshmen Owen Clark and Caden Meyer. For the winter season, the team is playing an objective-based game called Overwatch.

Sigourney science teacher and E-Sports coach, Nathan Kelly tells KCII that forming this team about two months ago received unanimous support from the District. “It was definitely a student-led thing. We were trying to find an avenue for some kids that had interest in computers and in gaming. Principal Webb, our Athletic Director Lee Crawford, and Mr. Hatfield our Superintendent all were really big on getting a program together like this so it was definitely nice to see that students want to take hold of that.”

The Sigourney E-Sports Team dropped its first competition of the season against New London on Tuesday, but is back in action on Monday versus Danville.
