The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams bring the pre-Holiday portion of their schedule to a close tonight when they entertain Cedar Valley Christian in a non-confernce doubleheader in Kalona. The Raven girls are 2-8 on the season after a 49-40 loss at Wapello Tuesday, despite 20 points and five made threes from Claire Withrow. This year the Ravens average 38 points per game and give up 44, shooting 27% from the floor and three and 50% at the line with 33 boards, nine assists, 12 steals and 21 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Withrow at 15 points, Delaney Shaw with 10 boards and Malia Yoder with four steals and three assists per game.
Cedar Valley Christian is 0-7 this season after a 69-5 loss to Calamus-Wheatland Saturday. On the year the Huskies score 10 points per game and give up 59, shooting 13% from the floor, 7% from three and 39% at the line with 22 boards, an assist, six steals and 26 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Brianna Jessen with three points and a steal and Libbie Spicka with eight rebounds per game.
The Raven boys are 6-2 after scoring a road win Tuesday at Wapello 49-32, behind a trio in double figures with Bryce Bailey scoring 15 points, Seth Ours 14 and Mason Bender 10. This year, Hillcrest averages 54 points per game and gives up 45, shooting 44% from the floor, 32% from three and 59% at the line with 24 rebounds, 15 assists, nine steals and 10 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Ours at 17 points per night, Rowan Miller with six assists and three steals, and Bender with six boards.
CVC is 1-7 this season. They fell to Cal-Wheat on Saturday 81-34, despite 19 points from Caleb Krueger. On the year, the Huskies score 31 points per game and give up 66, shooting 28% from the floor, 24% from distance and 56% at the line with 22 rebounds, four assists, nine steals and 28 turnovers per game. Krueger leads the way with 12 points, eight boards and three steals per night. These teams last met in 2012, a 62-47 Raven win.
