The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams finish the pre-Christmas portion of their schedules tonight with a trip north to face the state ranked Solon Spartans. The Golden Hawk girls are 6-2 this year and winners of four straight after a 55-42 win over Durant Friday where Callie Huber went double double with 16 points and 14 rebounds while Nora Pennington added 15 points. For the year, the Hawks score 61 per game and give up 45, shooting 42% from the floor, 31% from three and 51% at the line with 38 boards, 15 assists, 14 steals and 18 turnovers per game. Individually, Huber paces the Hawks with 13 points and 10 boards per night, Pennington has four steals per game and Jovi Evans four assists.

Solon is 8-1 this year after a 64-36 win over Center Point-Urbana Tuesday. The Lady Spartans are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Spartans score 57 per game and give up 37, shooting 36% from the floor, 27% from three and 73% at the line with 29 rebounds, 11 assists and steals and nine turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, future Iowa Hawkeye Callie Levin with 21 points, six steals and five assists per night. Anna Quillin averages 10 rebounds. The Spartans have won the last three against the Hawks dating back to 2011, including a come from behind 48-43 win in Wellman a year ago.

The Golden Hawk boys are 4-3 after back to back wins over Durant and Pekin last week. Against the Wildcats Friday, the Hawks were a 81-43 winner, led by 20 points from Ace Peck on six made threes, 16 for Bryce Henry, 12 for Landon Sullivan and 11 for Brady Weber. This year, Mid-Prairie scores 60 per game and gives up 56, shooting 44% from the floor, 32% from three and 69% at the line with 32 boards, 14 assists, seven steals and 21 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include, Bryce Henry at 10 points per game and Brady Weber with six assists, six boards and three steals per night.

Solon is unbeaten at 6-0 after a 70-45 win at CPU Tuesday. On the year, the Spartans score 67 points per game while giving up 50, shooting 46% from the floor, 37% from three and 62% at the line with 22 boards, 11 assists, 10 steals and 10 giveaways per game. Individual leaders include Jake Benzing at 20 points and six boards per night. Vince Steinbrech has three steals and Gehrig Turner two assists per game. Solon has won 10 of the last 11 in the series including a 75-66 win in Wellman a year ago with the Hawks last victory coming in 2009 at 55-52.
