The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team traveled to Central DeWitt Saturday for the Sabre Invitational. The Hawks were 14th in the field with 45 points, Creston won the team title with 235 points. Max Howe won gold for Mid-Prairie at 132lbs with a 3-0 day in contested matches that included a 5-3 victory over Xavier Marolf of East Moline in the title bout. This week, Howe talked with KCII Sports about how the championship match played out. Howe said, “It was tied, there were five seconds left. I took a shot and scored my two. It was done, that’s how I won my championship. I had a pretty big bracket that day. It feels good. I like it. Especially after a long match that went all the way to the third period with a good kid. It made me smile.”
Other top performers included sixth place finishes for Tucker Miller at 138lbs and Burke Berry at 285lbs. The Golden Hawks are off until January 6th for the Gary Curtis Invitational at Highland.
