Iowa hunters still have opportunities to tag a deer this year with the opening of the late muzzleloader season and reopening of the archery season. Both began on Monday and will run through Wednesday, January 10.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, approximately 20,000 hunters will participate in the late muzzleloader season yielding roughly 10,000 deer. 

So far in Iowa, 90,575 total deer have been harvested this year. This includes 1,566 in Johnson County, 1,432 in Washington County, 1,324 in Jefferson County, 1,269 in Iowa County, 1,229 in Henry County, 1,182 in Louisa County, and 951 in Keokuk County. 

The final deer seasons will be the Population Management Antlerless Season and Excess Tag Antlerless Season, both running from January 11-21.
