The WACO Warriors will get the second half of the high school basketball season started tonight when they travel to Louisa-Muscatine for a doubleheader. The WACO boys are 5-3 overall but have won five of their first six games in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.
Warriors guard Hunter Hughes has lived up to his all-conference form of the last two years, averaging almost 19 points, six rebounds, five assists and four-and-a-half steals per game this season. Fellow senior Colton Leichty has also been in top form, putting up nearly 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and 1.5 blocked shots per contest.
WACO will try to win their third straight against Louisa-Muscatine, which is 3-3 in the Super Conference North and 4-6 overall behind senior guard Ty Northup’s nearly 21 points a game.
The Warrior girls had picked up back-to-back wins before losing their final game prior to the winter break. Senior Emma Wagler is averaging a double-double with over 13 points and 10 rebounds per game to help WACO get to 4-3 in conference play and 4-5 overall. The Warriors will try to hand L&M its ninth loss of this season. The WACO girls will start the doubleheader in Letts with tip-off this evening at 6 o’clock.
