The Lone Tree Lions return to the basketball court tonight after an extended winter break, welcoming conference rival Wapello to town for a doubleheader. The Lone Tree girls are having a brilliant season, with a six-point loss to Columbus as the only blemish in seven games inside the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 11 games in total.

Sophomore guard Finley Jacque has been a shooting star for the Lions, knocking down 27 three-pointers and averaging over 18 points per game. Sophomore Ava Christofferson has also given Lone Tree a solid boost by averaging nearly seven points and three-and-a-half steals per contest, while junior point guard Vivan Zaruba does a little bit of everything well by putting up nearly six points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals a game.

While the Lion ladies will try to hand Wapello their sixth loss of the season, Lone Tree will be looking to pull to .500 on the season in boys’ hoops, coming in with a 2-5 record in the Super Conference North and a 5-6 overall mark.

Sophomore Emmett Burke and senior Ethan Bockelman are both averaging double-figure scoring and are combining to pour in 23 points per game. The Lions will be trying to add to a win over Wapello last season that ended a five-game losing skid in the series. Tonight’s doubleheader in Lone Tree begins with the girls’ game at 6.
