The office of Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced this week that November’s post-election audits have been successfully completed in all 99 counties.
The post-election audits process began on the Wednesday following Election Day. This involves one precinct in each Iowa county being randomly chosen for a hand count of ballots. The count is then compared to the machine count to verify its accuracy. This year, the post-election audits matched the machine count 100% in all counties.
In addition to post-election audits, Iowa implements multiple layers of election security including paper ballots, local poll workers and election officials, pre-testing of voting machines, cybersecure voting machines, and other protective measures.
