A handful of KCII area boys wrestling teams will be on the mat today at Highland High School for the traditionally tough Gary Curtis Invitational.

The Washington Demons will be in action today in Riverside. The Demons enter the day with an 8-2 dual record after splitting a triangular Thursday, scoring a win over WACO and falling to Fort Madison. Top tournament finish for the Demons this year was sixth at Fort Madison where Aaron Boone won individual gold.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys come into the day with a 7-7 dual record after sweeping Camanche, Belleuve and Northeast in a River Valley Conference quad Thursday. In tournament action, the Hawk’s highest finish came as team runners-up at New London. This season Trevyn Riley, Max Howe and Burke Berry have all won tournament championships. Tucker Miller has the team lead with 14 wins. Riley, Mason Howe, Max Howe, Miller, Austin Bush, Noah Freeman, Max Kipp, Jarron Thomas, Tommy Miller, Burke Berry and Brock Fisher all have winning records.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union enters Saturday with a 16-3 dual mark this season. They have been off since the Eddyville Invitational December 23rd where they posted a 3-1 dual record. The Wildcats highest team tournament finish this season was fourth at Fort Madison where Russell Coil raced to the top of the podium for the title at 285lbs. Coil and Ty Scorpil are tied for the team lead with 25 victories going into the holidays. Justin Knipfer, Tayson Samuels, Trentin Gary, Jaiden Beeding, Tyson Kaalberg, Max Nunez, Riley Kaalberg, Keaton Starkweather, Fritz Figaro, Ronaldo Villegas, Jacob Nelson, Jaxton Jones, Kason Dopler, Bowen Thomson, Cole Storm, Dakota Aney, and Ian Estudillo all have winning records.

The WACO Warriors are 3-10 this dual season after dropping matchups with Washington and Fort Madison at the Demon Den Thursday. Top tournament finish for the Warriors so far this year came at New London where they placed third. Individually, Louden Huisenga has won a pair of individual tournament titles while John McLaughlin and Gage Samo each have one championship. Huisenga is the team leader with 13 victories. Casey Coakley, Samo, McLaughlin, and Braden Stafford all have winning records.

The home Highland Huskies have a 4-4 dual record. They last competed December 16th at the Fort Madison Invitational. Top tournament finish for the Huskies came at Wapello where they placed ninth as a team. Luke Guseman and Tyler Pierson both have runner-up finishes for the Huskies in tournament action. Pierson is top Dog for Highland with 19 wins. Landon Bell, Guseman, Brock Thomann, Alan Nass, Jack Peiffer and Isaac Kleese are all above .500.

Those teams are joined today by Alburnett, Cascade, Durant, English Valleys, Fort Madison, Louisa-Muscatine, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine, New London, Iowa City Regina, Springville, West Branch and Wilton. Action starts at 10a.m. and continues all day Saturday in Riverside.
