As we hit mid-January local wrestlers begin the push toward postseason tournaments. Both the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association have released the sites and fields for the 2024 Super Regional and District tournaments.

The Golden Hawk girls will travel to Des Moines to compete at HyVee Hall in the Region 4 Super Regional. A season ago, the Hawks set a school record by advancing five wrestlers, Gabi Robertson, Ellie Brenneman, Grace Conway, Mia Garvey and Ellie Callahan, to the state tournament in Coralville. The Hawks will compete in the state capital against Anamosa, BGM, Cardinal, Centerville, Clarke of Osceola, Colfax-Mingo, Des Moines Public Schools, Earlham, Gilbert, Indianola, Interstate 35, Iowa City West, Martensdale-St. Mary’s Norwalk, Oskaloosa, Raccoon River, Saydel, Southeast Polk, Southeast Warren/Melcher Dallas, Southern Tier, Tipton, West Des Moines Valley, Waterloo East and West Marshall. Super Regionals are scheduled for Friday, January 26th at 10a.m. The Girls State Wrestling Tournament will take place Thursday, February 1st and Friday, February 2nd at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

State bids will be on the line for the Golden Hawk boys in their 2A District tournament at Solon. The Hawks sent one wrestler, Terry Bordenave to State a season ago. This year, Mid-Prairie will take on Camanche, Central DeWitt, Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union, No. 2 Mount Vernon, Tipton, West Liberty and the home Spartans. The District tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th. The Boys State Wrestling Tournament will take place Wednesday, February 14th through Saturday, February 17th at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
