The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams hope the third time is the charm Thursday. After a pair of games were postponed due to weather earlier in the week, the Hawks are anxious to get back on the floor as they make a road trip to Iowa City to take on the Regina Regals tonight. This game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night. This is the first game back from break for the Golden Hawk boys who enter with a 4-4 overall record and 3-2 mark in conference. They have been off for three full weeks, since a 66-62 loss at top five in Class 3A Solon on December 21st. Mid-Prairie is averaging 60 points per game and giving up 58, shooting 43% from the floor, 34% from three and 70% at the line with 31 rebounds, 15 assists, seven steals and 19 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include, Ace Peck at 10 points per game, and Brady Weber with six assists, five rebounds and three steals per night. The Hawks are ranked in the top 10 of 2A in six different team and individual categories.

The Iowa City Regina boys are 9-2 on the year and a perfect 5-0 atop the River Valley Conference South Division. They knocked off Lisbon a week ago on the road 61-44. This season the Regals put up 60 points per game and give up 49, shooting 46% from the floor, 32% from three and 63% at the line with 30 rebounds, 14 assists, 10 steals and 13 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Michael Martin with 17 points and two steals per game, Drew Streb averages seven boards and Eddie Petersen five assists per night. Mid-Prairie has won five of the last six in the series, but the two teams split last year’s meetings, Mid-Prairie winning 58-52 in Coralville and the Regals 65-55 in Iowa City.

The Golden Hawk girls are 6-4 this year after a 73-37 loss at No. 13 in Class 4A Maquoketa Saturday in the River Valley Conference Shootout. On the season the Hawks average 58 points per game and give up 48, shooting 42% from the field, 30% from three and 51% at the line with 38 rebounds, 14 assists, 12 steals and 19 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Callie Huber with 12 points and 10 rebounds per night. Nora Pennington with four steals per game and Jovi Evans at four assists per outing. The Hawks rank in the top 10 of 3A in ten different team and individual categories.

Iowa City Regina is 10-2 this season, 5-0 on top of the River Valley South following a 55-39 win Saturday in the River Valley Conference Shoot Out over Monticello. The Regals are ranked No. 3 in Class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. This year Regina scores 62 points per game and gives up 38, shooting 47% from the floor, 30% from three and 57% at the line with 30 rebounds, 13 assists, 11 steals and 11 turnovers per game. Individually, the Regals are led by Morgan Miller with 18 points, four steals and three assists per game. Caitlin Martin averages five rebounds. Regina has won nine straight in the series with the Hawks last victory coming in 2018.
