The Mid-Prairie School Board met in regular session on Monday, January 8.

While discussing the 2014 bond, it was determined that a surplus of more than $160,000 has formed over the last eight years from interest income allocated to the Debt Service Fund. This surplus allows the District to pay down principal on the 2014 bond, which could be paid off by the end of 2025.

Contingencies that have not materialized from the current construction projects could result in more than $110,000 to be used for other projects in addition to interest earnings of $335,000 from the District’s money market account. Proposed upgrades included Cafetorium seating, stage curtains, and stage lighting.

The Board issued contracts for a Middle School TLC Assistant Literacy Coach and Math Coach for the second half of the school year. Two fundraisers were also approved: one for a junior class chili cook-off prom fundraiser on January 12 and an FCCLA strawberry sale in February.

In other action items, the Board approved a request for Modified Supplemental Aid for the 2024-25 Dropout Prevention Program in the amount of $255,275 with a local match component of $85,092.

The Mid-Prairie Board of Education will meet next on Monday, January 22 at 6:15 p.m. in the Central Office Community Room.
