Iowa’s final deer seasons are open, however area hunters may only take part in select counties. The State’s Population Management Antlerless Season and Excess Tag Antlerless Season began on Thursday, and continue through Sunday, January 21.
Jefferson County is the only one in the KCII listening area open for the Excess Tag Antlerless Season. Due to a compressed timeline, license sales for this season are only available over the counter until the quota is filled. Anyone participating in the Excess Tag Antlerless Season may only use rifles from .223 caliber to .500 caliber as a method of take. Additional open counties include Adair, Adams, Allamakee, Appanoose, Clarke, Clayton, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Fayette, Lee, Lucas, Madison, Monroe, Ringgold, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Wayne, and Winneshiek.
There are fewer opportunities for the Population Management Antlerless Season, which is open in Allamakee, Appanoose, Decatur, Lucas, Monroe, Wayne, and Winneshiek counties. This season allows hunters to use bows, muzzleloaders, handguns, shotguns, crossbows, or rifles .223 caliber to .500 caliber.
As of Friday, 102,339 total deer had been harvested in Iowa. For a complete list of State hunting regulations, click here.
