The Winfield-Mt. Union Board of Education announced on Monday that it has accepted the recommendation to transition to a four-day school week for the 2024-25 school year. The decision comes after more than nine months of stakeholder surveys, meetings, and community-wide discussions.

The model selected by students, staff, and stakeholders is a schedule that runs Tuesday through Friday. This will make Mondays available for professional development while also taking into account some Monday holidays that would be off anyway. The four-day school week includes slightly longer school days, but will still allow the District to hit the required annual hours set by the Department of Education without going further into the summer.

As the Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District continues to prepare for this transition next year, they have cited four key reasons for this change. They are to improve teacher retention, teacher effectiveness, teacher recruitment, and student achievement.
