The Keota Eagles’ undefeated boys’ basketball season rolled on with an 80-28 win against English Valleys Tuesday. Keota nearly doubled a 25-6 lead from the first quarter and was up 47-11 by halftime. The fifth-ranked team in Class 1A never slowed down from there and improved to 14-0.
Sawyer Stout poured in 24 points to lead the Eagles and added five assists and three steals, while fellow senior Cole Kindred had a big all-around night with 17 points, four rebounds, five assists and six steals. Sophomore Chase Haifley came through with 10 points, four boards, five dimes and six thefts off the bench, while junior Billie Kindred had seven points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals to push Keota to 12-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League.
The Eagle girls, meanwhile, fell just short to English Valleys 43-40. After trailing 12-7 after a quarter of play, Keota got back within two points by the half and nearly came all the way back from a nine-point deficit in the final period.
Freshman Emily Conger came off the bench to put up team highs of 14 points and six steals for the Eagles, but they nonetheless drop to 3-8 in conference play and 3-11 in total.
