The Lone Tree Lions took over sole possession of first place in the North division of Southeast Iowa Super Conference girls’ basketball by defeating the Columbus Wildcats last night 52-33. Lone Tree seized a 27-10 lead in the first quarter and never slowed down from there, leading by 13 points at halftime and maintaining a double-digit lead most of the way.

Senior Avery Lisk had one of her best offensive games of the season at the moment the Lions needed it most, hitting six three-point baskets and scoring a game-high 20 points. Point guard Vivian Zaruba added 10 points to help Lone Tree improve to 10-1 in the Super Conference North and 15-1 overall. Sophomore Isabel Rendon had 12 points to lead Columbus, while junior Frannie Sosa added 10 points as the Wildcats drop to 11-2 in conference action and 13-4 in total.

Both teams play again tonight, with Lone Tree traveling to Pekin and Columbus heading to Winfield-Mount Union. You can hear the Wildcats face the Wolves in a KCII Area Game of the Week doubleheader starting at 5:30 this evening exclusively streaming on KCIIradio.com.
