The WACO Warrior basketball teams each picked up a pair of victories over the last few days, including last night when the WACO boys cruised past Louisa-Muscatine 77-36. The Warriors led by 10 at both the end of the opening quarter and the first half. But it was the 35-12 run out of the locker room that would put the Falcons away.

Chase Waterhouse scored 19 points to lead WACO, while fellow senior Hunter Hughes had 12 points and Colton Leichty finished with 10 to help the Warriors improve to 12-2 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 12-4 overall.

That victory came on the heels of a 60-36 win over Wapello on the road Saturday. WACO raced out to a 22-5 lead in the first period and never looked back. Waterhouse again led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Leichty had a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards and Hughes added 10 points and five assists.

Meanwhile, the WACO girls won last night 47-43, turning a tie game against Louisa-Muscatine in the first quarter into a 22-20 lead by halftime. The Warriors would build the lead to five points going into the final period before fending off the Falcons down the stretch.

Freshman Brenna Graber hit a pair of three-pointers and led WACO with 14 points scored, while senior Emma Wagler went five-for-eight from the free-throw line on her way to 13 points that powered the Warriors to 10-5 in the Super Conference North and 10-8 in total.

WACO was building on another close win when they knocked off Wapello 49-41 Saturday. Despite trailing 17-6 after a quarter of play, the Warriors got back within three points by the half and used a 19-7 run in the third period to go in front for good.

Graber hit another four triples and finished with 16 points, while senior Naomi Egli added 12 points for WACO. Both Warrior teams will return to the court tonight against Lone Tree.
