The Lone Tree Lions kept up their outstanding girls’ basketball season with a pair of wins from the weekend into last night. That included a 56-39 victory over Wapello yesterday on the road. After a 14-5 lead in the first quarter, Lone Tree went into halftime up by 10 points.
But the Lions didn’t settle for just that, as a 17-6 run to start the second half pushed the lead to 47-26 and would be more than enough to raise Lone Tree’s record to 18-1 overall, as well as keeping the Lions in first place in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference with a 13-1 league record.
Lone Tree had already secured an important conference victory Saturday when they knocked off Highland 54-38. A five-point lead in the opening period widened to 33-19 with an 18-9 run going into halftime, and the Lions would put it away by starting the second half with a 13-5 spurt.
Sophomore Finley Jacque hit four three-pointers on her way to a game-high 16 points for Lone Tree and also finished with seven rebounds and three assists. Junior Rylee Shield had 10 points, six rebounds and four steals, while sophomore Ava Christofferson added 10 points for the Lions.
Lone Tree will be back on the basketball court later tonight against WACO. You can hear the Lions face the Warriors starting at 5:30 this evening by streaming the KCII Area Game of the Week on KCIIradio.com.
