Last week, Joel and Laura Huber of Wellman were named to the Iowa Master Pork Producers for 2023. The 82nd class of Master Pork Producers were announced at a banquet in Des Moines.

Joel is a member of the Washington County Pork Producers, while Laura is on the Washington County Fair Board. The two work on a pig farm that has been a part of Joel’s family for generations. This includes two sow co-ops in what Joel calls a “farrow to finish” operation. Joel and Laura have two daughters, Alexa and Callie. 

The Iowa Pork Producers Association started the Master Pork Producer Award Program in 1942. Since its inception, more than 1,500 Iowa pig farming businesses have been named as Master Pork Producers. Recipients are recognized for their excellence in pork production, as measured by pork production statistics, dedication to high standards for animal well-being, and contributions to their community.
