As part of a busy night full of winning for Keokuk County basketball teams, the Keota Eagles continued their undefeated boys’ hoops season by knocking off Cardinal 83-40 Friday night. Keota’s early seven-point lead was built upon with a 29-7 run in the second quarter, pushing the margin to 43-14 by halftime and allowing the Eagles to cruise from there.

Sawyer Stout hit four three-point shots and scored a game-high 24 points to lead Keota. Fellow senior Tanner Waterhouse also hit four three-pointers on his way to 16 points, while junior Billie Kindred added 16 points and eight rebounds to power the Eagles to 19-0.

The Keota girls were in a battle all game long against Cardinal, tied up at seven after one quarter and trailing by a point at halftime. A 14-8 run to start the second half pushed the Eagles in front 29-24, and they would be able to hold off the Comets down the stretch for a 33-32 victory, improving to 4-9 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 6-12 overall.

The Sigourney Savages were able to pick up a boys’ basketball win in conference play Friday as well, knocking off HLV 45-34. After building an 18-10 lead in the first period, Sigourney pushed the advantage to double digits by halftime and would be able to stave off a comeback attempt by the Warriors, pushing their record to 9-5 in conference play and 12-5 in total.

The Sigourney girls would also defeat HLV 62-45, taking a 21-7 lead in the first quarter and staying in front by double digits the rest of the way. The Savages are now 8-4 in the SICL and 14-4 overall. While Sigourney is slated to take on Belle Plaine this weekend and Centerville on Monday, the Savages will meet the Eagles Tuesday night in Keota.
