keota-eagles-2

Keota boys basketball stayed perfect Monday night as they welcomed Highland to town for a non-conference matchup. In the final regular-season edition of the KCII Area Game of the Week, the Eagles improved to 20-0, handling the Huskies 74-36.

It appeared early on that Highland might hang with Keota as the two were tied at four just a few minutes into the action. As if by flipping a switch, however, the Eagles turned up the intensity on both sides to close the quarter on a 26-2 run. Sawyer Stout led all scorers with 12 in the frame, and would go for a game-high 25. A quieter second-quarter sent Keota to the locker room up by 27.

The second half was much of the same, with a running clock in effect halfway through the third quarter. This allowed both squads to see production from a majority of their respective rosters. Ten different Eagles and nine Huskies recorded at least one field goal. Behind Stout, Keota got nine points from Billie Kindred and seven from Connor Strand. The Huskies were led by Louis Horak, who recorded all eight of his points in the second half.

Keota honors its seniors tonight, closing out the regular season with a boy/girl doubleheader against Sigourney. Highland’s boys welcome Holy Trinity Catholic in their finale. The KCII Area Game of the Week, meanwhile kicks off postseason coverage this Thursday with the Lone Tree Lady Lions and WMU.
