Nine Mid-Prairie Large Group Speech events competed over the weekend at the State Contest in Bettendorf. Eight of the nine received a division 1 rating, with three events nominated for All-State.

Division 1 performances included a one act play of Jacob Carrillo, Harlie Gehling, Niah Leaton, and Grace Puttman, two ensemble acting groups with River Gehling, Grace Puttmann, Tabitha Fisher, Harlie Gehling, Wren Harris, and Daniel Rodgers, a musical theatre performance from Logan McClellen and Caroline Schrader, and group improv from Jillian Clark, Niah Leaton, and Toby Olson. The reader’s theatre group of Chris Burnham, Jillian Clark, River Gehling, Abby Kraus, Brock Lowenberg, Aliza Parks, Daniel Rodgers, and Diego Sanchez earned a division 2 rating.

Earning a division 1 rating, plus a nomination to perform at All-State was the ensemble acting team of Haydon Bailey, Logan McClellen, Jeremiah Rempel, and Caroline Schrader. Bailey, Rempel, and Jack Greiner will perform as well, after receiving a nomination for musical theatre. Greiner and Jacob Carrillo were nominated for group improv as non-performers. Only the top 5% of student performer’s in the Iowa High School Speech Association reach the All-State level.

The three Mid-Prairie events will join 72 others from southeast Iowa at the IHSSA All-State Festival on Saturday, February 17 at Iowa State University in Ames.
