The Winfield-Mount Union Wolves completed an undefeated season in conference play and a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North boys’ basketball championship after knocking off the Lone Tree Lions 63-38 Tuesday night. WMU had a 36-25 lead at halftime, but a 19-2 run in the third quarter would put the fifth-ranked team in Class 1A in complete control.
Cam Buffington lead the Wolves by scoring a game-high 31 points, including knocking down three three-point baskets. Fellow senior Abram Edwards came up with 13 points, 14 rebounds and four assists as Winfield-Mount Union improves to 16-2 overall and ends Super Conference North play with a mark of 15-0.
Meanwhile, Lone Tree falls to 6-15 and will finish conference action with a 3-13 record. While the Lions will get ready to face Hillcrest Academy Monday in the first round of the postseason, WMU is awaiting the winner tomorrow between Columbus and New London.
