After months of renovations, the Wellman Public Library will be moving back to its original site at 711 4th Street. Volunteers are requested this week to help with furniture, shelves, and hundreds of books.
While the move began on Monday, volunteers are still needed through 8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow and Friday. Materials are being moved out of the Driscoll Building, the Library’s temporary site since last spring.
Library Director, Carrie Geno, explained the renovation plans to KCII last year. “We will be expanding into the unoccupied portion of our building which will basically double our space. It is located to the east here so we will be removing quite a few walls and opening things up, adding a programming room, a study room, and giving us more shelf space.”
While all materials should be moved in by the end of the week, the Wellman Library will remain closed until February 22 while staff prepare for a grand opening.
