The Keota Eagle boys’ basketball team continues their postseason journey tonight when they host North Tama in the second round of the Class 1A Substate 6 tournament in a game you can hear on KCII. Keota’s undefeated season rolled on with a convincing 99-35 first-round victory Monday over English Valleys, moving the sixth-ranked team in the state to 22-0.

The Eagles’ stars are shining bright as the playoffs begin, with leading scorer Sawyer Stout adding to his average of over 21 points per game by pouring in a game-high 24 against the Bears. Junior forward Billie Kindred nearly had another double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds, right in line with his season averages of 12 points and 10-and-a-half boards.

Whether it was point guard Cole Kindred showing off his versatility with 11 points, four rebounds and six assists or an extra scoring boost off the bench with 14 points from fellow senior Aiden McGuire, Keota showcased their depth and talent to start the postseason. Eagles head coach Dan Stout tells KCII Sports that he has a team with the mindset and the ability to beat anyone.

“We just kind of worry about what we do as much as what the other teams are going to do,” Stout says. “We want to make them adjust to us. You’re going to have to score some points, and you’re going to have to play a good game to knock these guys off, just with the depth that we have and how different guys can do each night out. Hopefully, we can continue to do that, because success has been there so far.”

Keota’s next opponent is a North Tama team that has not rediscovered its form from a 3-0 start, instead falling to 7-11 before beating BGM 56-50 in the first round. You can hear Eagle playoff basketball this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app, starting with the pregame show at 6:30.
