Two adults and three juveniles were injured in a vehicle collision on Friday. 

According to the crash report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 2001 Chevy Silverado driven by 69-year-old John Homer Schrock was traveling northbound on Highway 1. It was at approximately 7:46 p.m. when  Schrock crossed the center line and collided with a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 38-year-old Aurelio Velasco Munguia. 

Both vehicles came to a rest on the west side of Highway 1 near 150th Street. Both drivers were injured as a result of the collision, with Schrock transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics via Washington County Ambulance, and Munguia taken to the same place via Air Care. Additionally, three juveniles were injured and taken to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, however the report did not specify which vehicle they were passengers in. 

All five individuals’ lives were saved by the use of a seatbelt. The incident remains under investigation through the Iowa State Patrol, who were also assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Tri-State Towing of Kalona.
