Another arrest has been made in connection to a body found at Amana Lily Lake earlier this week. In a press release from the Marion Police Department, law enforcement officials arrested 18-year-old Dakota Lyle Van Patten of Cedar Rapids on the evening of Wednesday, February 21.
The arrest comes as a result of an investigation into the death of 20-year-old Melody Marie Hoffman of Marion, whose body was discovered on Sunday morning. An affidavit released by the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office stated that 23-year-old McKinley Louisma of Hiawatha picked Hoffman up at approximately 11 p.m. on Saturday, February 17. Louisma reportedly admitted to a DCI agent that he and another individual bound Hoffman with duct tape and eventually dumped her body near the lake, however the other individual was not initially named.
Van Patten is charged with first-degree murder, a class A felony, first-degree kidnapping, a class A felony, and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, a class C felony. Louisma, who had been previously been charged with kidnapping and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony, has now been charged with first-degree murder as well. They are both being held at the Linn County Jail in Cedar Rapids.
