Winfield-Mt. Union joined several area speech teams last month for the Individual District Contest at Mount Vernon High School. Much like the others, the Wolves saw plenty of success, which resulted in four individuals and five events qualifying for State.

It was a double-dip for Avalin Grieser, who earned a trip to the State Contest in Prose and Literary Program. Beatrice Anderson joined Grieser in qualifying for Prose. Ella Kann was awarded a division 1 rating and bid to State with a performance in After-Dinner Speaking, while Monte Izatt qualified in Solo Improvisation. Kann also participated in Prose and Izatt competed in Radio News Announcing.

Additional performers for WMU were Jana Isanta Vila in Expository Address, Pacey Schlee in Expository Address and Solo Musical Theatre, Brynn Pogmore in Solo Musical Theatre and poetry, Maddison Coey in Radio News Announcing and Poetry, and Jennifer Perez Ruiz in Radio News Announcing.

This year’s Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Individual Contest will be held on Saturday, March 9 at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids.
