Mid-Prairie alum Bronwyn Brenneman had a big weekend at the NJCAA Women’s National Championship Wrestling Meet at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. Brenneman, a sophomore member of the Iowa Central Tritons, finished in second place in the country at 130lbs.
Brenneman, the No. 2 ranked wrestler in the country, opened her tourney with a 13-2 victory by superiority in just 98 seconds over No. 8 Juliana Raabe Umpqua College in Oregon. In the sweet 16, she ended things early, in under a minute, with a 10-0 victory by superiority over Edna Fuentes of Southwestern Oregon. In the National Quarterfinals Brenneman again rolled, this time with a four minute victory by superiority 10-0 over Sophie Barnes of Iowa Western. Brenneman’s semifinal win came with an exclamation point, a first period pin of No. 3 Amaria Ridgner of Indian Hills. Brenneman’s run ended in the finals with a 10-0 loss to No. 1 Zainab Ibrahim of Umpqua.
Brenneman wraps up her season with a silver medal and 26-7 overall record. She ends her time with the Tritons with a 50-16 mark. Iowa Central finished 2024 as National Runners-Up with 139.5 points behind National Champion Western Wyoming’s 161.
