U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News about oversight of the FBI-generated 1023 document, one of the main exhibits used in the Republican Biden impeachment probe led by James Comey and the House Oversight Committee. Here are some of his thoughts on the document, “In this case, I just took the information, and tried to get to the FBI what are you doing about it. I made it public last July, and the information that was in it wasn’t even, as far as I know, investigated until September of last year. And they arrested the person that was mentioned in it, I think his name was Smirnoff, and they arrested him because he was lying to the FBI. Think of the good I have done for this country by making this 1023 public, proving that the FBI wasn’t doing their work, proving that the FBI was paying somebody that was lying to them, several hundred thousand dollars over a period of year.” A statement from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on the 1023 document states “we’ve approached this request the same as we would any other — working in good faith to find a resolution that satisfies Congress’s legitimate oversight interests, while protecting important FBI interests like the safety of FBI sources and the integrity of our investigations.” The FD-1023 is the form that special agents use to record raw, unverified reporting from confidential human sources
