Three area girls track teams make the trip to Ames today for the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor State Championship Meet.
The Washington Demons did not attend this event last year due to weather. Head coach Stephanie Haworth and the Demons will put this lineup in action Friday. Senior Ada Kendall and freshman Jaedyn Moore will compete in the 60m dash. Moore also gets in the call in the 200m dash along with junior Eden Levetzow. Junior Lauren Horak will compete in the half mile while junior Isabella Lujan and sophomore Iris Dahl take on the mile. Junior Quincy Griffis finishes out the distance crew, competing in the two-mile. A Demon sophomore trio of Leighton Messinger, Ryen Pepper and Nelly Ponce-Cruz draw the 60m hurdles. Messenger will also compete in the high jump. Washington will put quartets to be determined in each of the 4×1, 4×4, and 4x800s.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks also travel to Iowa State today. Friday’s lineup for head coach Mark Hostetler and the Hawks includes senior Emma Lueck, junior Dakota Mitchell and sophomore Jovi Evans in the 60m dash. Evans will also run the 200, and Lueck will long jump. In the 400, it’s senior Greta Sieren. She is also featured in the 800 along with fellow senior Annika Poll. A year ago Sieren was 51st in this event. It’s a trio of seniors in the 1500 including Abby Fleming, Danielle Hostetler and Phoebe Shetler. Hostetler finished fourth in the event at this meet a season ago. Fleming and Hostetler will also be in the 3000 where they are joined by freshman Brooklyn Stutzman. Hostetler was seventh in this event at this meet last year. Senior Behla Schmidt and sophomore Olivia Schlabach draw the 60m hurdles and senior Paige Safly will fly in the high jump. The Golden Hawks will also put together teams to be determined in the 4×1, 4×4, 4×8 and sprint medley relays.
The Hillcrest Academy Ravens will be at the State Championships today. Sophomore Rya Scott has a full program, participating in the 60m dash, 200, 400 and long jump. She is joined in the long jump by junior Delaney Shaw. Shaw was 35th in that event at this meet last season. Freshman Marie Yoder represents the Raven distance crew running the 1500 and 3000.
Action continues all day Friday in Ames on the campus of Iowa State University.
